Japanese architect Shigeru Ban<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0recently designed the 135-year-old building \u2013 Cast Iron House<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>\u2013 which has been recognized as a New York Landmark for its exquisite cast iron facade.<\/p>\n

\"Cast<\/a><\/p>\n

Ban opt to preserve the building\u2019s remarkable facade, that was built in 1882, yet redesign the interior to include 11 double height units and a two story penthouse addition. The new modern living space<\/strong><\/em><\/a> was styled by interior designer Brad Ford <\/strong><\/em>and differentiates itself from the remaining architecture<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Cast<\/a><\/p>\n

The interior design project<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is linked to\u00a0a concept which he called a ship in the bottle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe original cast iron facade is the bottle, while the newly built-out modern interior, which has been completely reimagined, is the ship,\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Shigeru Ban<\/strong><\/em>\u2018s vision included reviving the\u00a0ornamental iron-panel facade and adding a new two-storey extension onto the roof.<\/p>\n

\"Cast<\/a><\/p>\n

After the renovation is complete, the duplex residences are expected to expand up to 25 feet to take advantage of the original vaulted windows, and will contain around\u00a0three to five bedrooms each.<\/p>\n

Amenity spaces also have been provided in the basement, which include an exercise gym, dance studio, game rooms, an exterior courtyard, and a spa with sauna and steam room.<\/p>\n

Residence 6A<\/strong> <\/em>features vintage furnishings<\/strong><\/em> and neutral tones that are intended to suit the double-height living spaces designed\u00a0by\u00a0Ban.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Custom-made cabinets, wooden floors and sculptural lighting fixtures<\/strong><\/em> were given to the interiors, as well as a selection of paintings and sculptures.<\/p>\n

The bathrooms feature heated floors and polished chrome fixtures.<\/p>\n
