To promote Italian furniture<\/a><\/strong> and design, the Salone del Mobile was created and held for the first time in 1961. The fair was first hosted in Milan<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Parco Sempione in the Palazzo dell\u2019Arte building. Almost 12,000 people attended the fair in its inaugural year, making it a success. Cosimo Carli, a businessman, and a group of Italian furniture manufacturers were in charge of planning the event.<\/p>\n\n\n

The exhibition included the most recent developments and trends in furniture design<\/a><\/strong> at the time, with an emphasis on Italian design. Arflex, Cassina, and Zanotta<\/a><\/strong>, three of the top Italian furniture producers contributed with designs to the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n

The display of Gio Ponti\u2019s art was one of the most notable highlights of the first Salone del Mobile. Gio Ponti was an Italian architect, artist, furniture<\/strong><\/a> and industrial designer. He was among the most important individuals in Italian design, and the development of Italian design in the 20th century was significantly influenced by his work. Gio Ponti established himself as one of the most significant designers<\/a><\/strong> of his day thanks to the display of his work at the first Salone del Mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
