Developing a sharp line in color combination is a minimalist nail salon on the corner of Madison and East 69th Street. This is Paintbox\u2019s brand-new uptown studio, which is experimental yet understated in how it pairs upbeat unexpected color shades. The studio was determined to convey the drama and tension of color combining in a complementary palette of materials and unusual colors, drawing inspiration from Josef Albers\u2019 indispensable book Interaction of Color.<\/p>\n\n\n

Any single color can only ever be seen in relation to its surrounding colors. The studio\u2019s focus shifted to what occurs in the interim. The color purple permeates every aspect of the shop, from the light<\/a><\/span><\/strong> custom acrylic shelving to the plush upholstery<\/a><\/span><\/strong> on the customers\u2019 chairs. The textured plaster walls, perforated sheer window treatments, and colored concrete sinks all feature softer pink tones.<\/p>\n\n\n

High temperatures, an unfinished construction site, and Dubai\u2019s desert outskirts. The \u201cTower of Shadows\u201d by Le Corbusier in Chandigarh comes to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n

A custom copper reception desk, which carves cool darkness out of the existing concrete structure, expresses primitive raw purity, and moveable blocks made of granite, stainless steel, and oak provide refreshments from the kitchen. The interiors<\/a><\/span><\/strong> have a subtle, tactile sensuality that is reminiscent of that elevated state of being found in the desert because the color scheme and materials are all of an elemental nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The requirements of a modern library with shared tables, private work spaces<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, and meeting rooms were satisfied within a year by keeping our design intent simple but specified in great detail through a package of over a hundred and fifty drawings, echoing the dunes\u2019 undulations and then the unfathomable distance traveled towards a horizon of endless color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chess Club, Mayfair<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It was always going to be difficult to create a brand-new members-only club in Mayfair that was inspired by the surreal game play of Duane Michals and Man Ray. Open up and reimagine three floors of a six-story townhouse that has been vacant for the past ten years are the project\u2019s first phase. The six-month construction project<\/a><\/span><\/strong> was managed from beginning to end by Fran Hickman\u2019s in-house architects, and it started with planning and building control. The first floor bar, the lower ground cloakrooms, the restaurant on the ground floor, and the new industrial kitchens were all designed and built by Fran Hickman.<\/p>\n\n\n

The masterful fusion of organic and geometric shape found in old Japanese prints had an impact on the colors and compositions in the public areas.
