Zaha Hadid: The Prominent Design Figure With Excellent Projects<\/em><\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Today, in this LUXXU Blog<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u2018s article, we present the work of Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi-born architect who was the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize. The London Aquatics Centre (used in the 2012 Summer Olympics), the Vitra Fire Station in WeilamRhein, Germany, China\u2019s Guangzhou Opera House, the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London, and the Riverside Museum in Glasgow were all designed by her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting To Know Zaha Hadid\u2019s Wonderful Works<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Hadid was born in Baghdad and attended the American University of Beirut before going to London\u2019s Architectural Association School of Architecture. She worked for her former teachers, Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis, at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in the Netherlands, where she became a partner in 1977. Zaha Hadid Architects, her own firm in London<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, was founded in 1979. Hadid was named a Dame in 2012 and is now known for structures from New York to Azerbaijan; she also had a dozen projects in the works at the time. Her furniture designs<\/a><\/span><\/strong> are highly sought after, and she recently ventured into jewelry by launching a collection with Georg Jensen at Baselworld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of Hadid\u2019s projects are funded by \u201cdictator states,\u201d and her architectural language has been described as \u201cfamously opulent.\u201d \u201cNot so dissimilar from the vast cultural palaces long cherished of Soviet and kindred governments,\u201d Rowan Moore said of Hadid\u2019s Heydar Aliyev Center. \u201cAn empty vessel that draws in whatever philosophy might be in proximity to it,\u201d architect Sean Griffiths said of Hadid\u2019s work. The foreclosure of Zaha Hadid\u2019s building of the MAXXI in Rome towards the public and urban life, according to art historian Maike Aden, weakens even the most brilliant plans to open the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaha Hadid also worked on a number of high-profile interior design projects, including the Mind Zone at London\u2019s Millennium Dome, as well as creating fluid furniture<\/a><\/span><\/strong> installations in the Georgian surroundings of Home House private members club in Marylebone and the Z.CAR hydrogen-powered three-wheeled automobile. In 2009, she collaborated with Lacoste to design a new, high-fashion, and sophisticated boot. She also collaborated with Triflow Concepts, a brassware company, to create two new designs in her characteristic parametric architectural style in the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaha Hadid Never Fails To Amaze Us<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Iraqi government commissioned Zaha Hadid to design a new building for the Central Bank of Iraq in 2010. At a ceremony in London<\/a><\/span><\/strong> on February 2, 2012, an agreement to complete the design stages of the new CBI building was signed. This will be her first project in Iraq, where she was born. Other projects<\/a><\/span><\/strong> include Pierres Vives, a new departmental records building for the French department H\u00e9rault in Montpellier (which will house three institutions: the archive, the library, and the sports department).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2008, Hadid\u2019s design for the Vilnius Guggenheim Hermitage Museum was chosen the best. She designed the Hong Kong Polytechnic University\u2019s Innovation Tower, which is set to be completed in 2013, as well as the Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion, which debuted in Hong Kong in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Roat\u00e1n Pr\u00f3spera Residences is a residential project that ZHA worked on alongside engineering firms AKT II and Hilson Moran to make it more ecologically friendly. Residents will have access to a computerized parametric platform designed by Zaha Hadid Architects\u2019 Computational and Design Group, which will allow for customization, particularly in terms of housing<\/a><\/span><\/strong> module size, layout, and furniture designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese Cultural Centre project is a 115,000-square-meter cultural complex near Meixi Lake in Changsha, Hunan province\u2019s capital. Zaha Hadid Architects designed three sinuous, petal-shaped buildings to house<\/a><\/span><\/strong> a theatre, a modern art museum, and a smaller multi-purpose venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grand Theatre is the complex\u2019s showpiece, and it is the city\u2019s largest performance space, with seating for up to 1,800 people. Zaha Hadid\u2019s vision establishes Changsha as one of the country\u2019s most important cultural and media centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
