The house, built by architect Carl Maston, was bought by\u00a0Dakota Johnson<\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u00a0four years ago, \u201cI was immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy,\u201d she says. \u201cI thought, I\u2019ll never want to sell this place.\u201d She also liked the backstory: \u201cMaston was buddies with Lautner and Neutra, and they\u2019d all go to Musso & Frank\u2019s together because there was a hostess that they were all in love with. Carl ended up marrying her, and this was the house they lived in.\u201d<\/p>\n

After her huge success as a protagonist of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, which she started filming when she was 24, Dakota Johnson decided to buy her own little escape where she could put down roots, \u201cI thought it would be healthy to have a base\u201d.<\/p>\n

The design firm Pierce & Ward, which has offices in L.A. and Nashville, helped Dakota Johnson<\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u00a0fulfil her home wish list. \u201cDakota was extremely fun to work with because she had a very clear vision of what she wanted,\u201d Ward says. \u201cWe basically made mood boards and came over for fabric-selecting. And wine.\u201d The biggest challenge of the home renovation process was the second floor. \u201cThe upstairs floor was made entirely of cork, which was really cool but wasn\u2019t salvageable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith my job and the velocity at which my schedule can change, it\u2019s important for me to have a place to go to and it be mine,\u201d Dakota Johnson<\/strong><\/span><\/em> admits. \u201cPsychologically, I\u2019m moored somewhere. This place is my anchor.\u201d<\/p>\n
